Have you ever thought about messenger bots for your business? If you haven’t then you will have to. According to a report from TechCrunch, Facebook announced the Messenger Bot Platform. You wonder why it is so important. It is because Messenger bots the way a lot of brands lead business. Of course we have automated messaging products, but Messenger bots are something new. They are more personalized, advanced and on the whole – better.
As per Facebook’s official announcement: “We’re excited to introduce bots for the Messenger Platform. Bots can provide anything from automated subscription content like weather and traffic updates, to customized communications like receipts, shipping notifications, and live automated messages all by interacting directly with the people who want to get them.”
What is a messenger bot?
Messenger bot is an AI-fuelled system that can respond to customer queries sent to your business via direct message. Bots are similar to people, but of course they are computers. We have so-called bots in our phones for years. These are apps and such bots as Siri, but the new bots are better and they are individually customizable to your business.
The potential of Messenger bots
According to TechCrunch, Facebook’s Messenger bot store will help businesses build automated response systems for fielding messages from potential customers – but rather than putting the onus on business owners to learn how to construct such complex, code heavy applications, Facebook will refer them to a listing of approved providers who can assist, and who have a solid working understanding of how Facebook’s bot systems work.
Messenger bots will facilitate a whole new range of ways for users to connect with brands, and have the potential to cause a significant shift in eCommerce more widely. And given the amount of users on Messenger (now up to 900m MAU), and the surrounding trends around app use (people using fewer) and messaging in general (people messaging more), you’d suspect that Messenger bots will prove popular. They’re quick, they’re easy and, over time, they’ll learn to become more and more intuitive.
